SPRINT OVERESTIMATES EVO SALES=FAIL

Sprint’s new EVO 4G smartphone is off to a fast start, just not as fast as the company originally stated. The EVO 4G did indeed set the one day sales record for a single handset, but Sprint inadvertently inflated sales figures, reports The Wall Street Journal.

While the EVO 4G first-day sales numbers were six times better than the Samsung Instinct and twice as strong as the Palm Pre, the 4G smartphone did not better the number of Instincts and Pres sold in their first three days on the market combined, says Reuters. BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk cut his first weekend estimate for the smartphone to 150,000 from his previous estimate of 250,000 to 300,000. The phone is in short supply and its sales figures aren’t expected to increase dramatically in its first week on the market.
